This course is designed for you if you have an interest in coffee making AND intend to serve in a commercial restaurant or business setting.

Why should my staff do barista training?

Making coffee is a bit of an art form these days. Coffee consumers know what they’re on about when it comes to choosing a decent brew. Many people have favourite cafes and even favourite baristas, who know how to consistently serve a quality cup. If you want repeat business, you want the best baristas. In addition, you want all of your staff to  understand food hygiene basics as a crucial part of best practices for service.

Which Barista course should I do?

Our Barista Basics course comes with a Certificate of Completion + one national accredited competency: SITXFSA001, Use hygienic practices for food safety.

If you wish to go the Barista Pro option, the core national accredited units are SITHFAB005, Prepare and serve espresso coffee + SITXFSA001, Use hygienic practices for food safety which contain all the skills and know-how you will need to become an excellent barista. Your staff will receive a Statement of Attainment for both units.

Are there any entry requirements?

There are no formal requirements to do our Barista training. There are basic numeracy and literacy requirements, however. For example, students need the ability to:

  • Read safety data sheets (SDS) and read the product instructions for chemicals
  • Ask customers what they would like, understand their responses and offer various options
  • Read instructions for the operation and maintenance of the equipment
  • Write orders out
  • Read recipes for beverages 
  • Estimate amounts of milk and adjust doses of coffee
  • Fill out incident reports

Please note: SITXFSA001, Use hygienic practices for food safety is a prerequisite for SITHFAB005 Prepare and serve espresso coffee, so SITXFSA001 must be done first.

Are international students eligible to do the Onsite Barista Course?

Any international students wishing to undertake the training are welcome to do so, provided they have a student visa.

How long does the Onsite Barista course Adelaide take?

The Onsite Barista Course Adelaide is an intensive 5-hour face-to-face training and assessment at your venue, with some pre-learning as well.
